Mr Gray Edwards

I acquired a broad and high quality experience in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery whilst completing my higher surgical training on the Bristol programme. I then completed advanced fellowship training at the Melbourne Shoulder and Elbow Centre, Australia and at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol focusing on cutting edge shoulder replacement surgery and soft tissue reconstruction techniques. I was awarded the Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training and am listed in the General Medical Council Specialist Register. I was appointed a Consultant at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in 2019.

I regularly utilise both contemporary open and arthroscopic techniques in the management of upper limb pathologies such as rotator cuff tears, shoulder joint instability (Dislocations), shoulder impingement, shoulder arthritis, tendon injuries around the elbow and nerve compression syndromes around the elbow and hand.

I am an active member of the trauma team at the Bristol Royal Infirmary dealing with complex upper limb injuries and general orthopaedic trauma.

I have published work in peer reviewed journals, my research interests include shoulder arthroplasty and the management of complex upper limb fractures and soft tissue injuries. I obtained my Masters Degree in Trauma Surgery completing a dissertation on the management of massive haemorrhage in trauma. I have been actively involved in medical education throughout my training and continue this trend as a consultant. Working in the University Hospital in Bristol, I am involved in the training of all levels of junior doctors and allied health professionals as well as continuing medical education and updates for fully qualified doctors. I train specialist orthopaedic registrars and fellows in my NHS practice helping contribute to the development of the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons.

Originally from North Wales, I grew up climbing and mountain biking in the mountains of Snowdonia, both activities I continue today. I am married to a local GP with whom I have 3 children and 2 boisterous spaniels. When not chasing around children or dogs, I also enjoy open water swimming, rugby, cricket and tennis.
